Around 17 people, including children, were killed during the celebratory firing in the Afghan capital Kabul, said news agency Reuters. Taliban opened fire, according to a source associated with terrorist groups after they claimed control over the last province of Afghanistan – Panjshir valley, north of Kabul.

One of the Taliban leaders told media agency Reuters said, “By the grace of Allah Almighty, we are in control of entire Afghanistan. The troublemakers have been defeated and Panjshir is now under our command.”

“Avoid shooting in the air and thank God instead,” Zabihullah Mujahid said in a message on Twitter. “Bullets can harm civilians, so don't shoot unnecessarily.”

But the opposition leaders have been denying the claim and said that they are still holding out. Former Afghan Vice President Amrullah Saleh, one of the opposition leaders, said that resistance has not given up.
