The government has answered a question in Rajya Sabha pertaining to the number of people arrested under the stringent Public Safety Act in Jammu and Kashmir.

As per the data released by the government, the number of people detained in Jammu and Kashmir under PSA were 613. This numbers comprise of the separatists, activists and public figures. However, out of 613, the number of detainees released were 430 as per the data available until August 1, 2019.

After doing the calculations, the number of people still under detention are 183 under the Public Safety Act.

The documents shared by the Ministry of Home Affairs, answering Rajya Sabha unstarred question number 208 states, "Since August 1, 2019, 613 persons including separatists, over ground workers, stone pelters, etc were detained at various points of time."

It added, "Out of these, based on regular review and ground situation, 430 perosns have been released till date."

It further stated, "The government of Jammu and Kashmir has further reported that no person is under house arrest in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir."
