60-yr-old woman beaten to death with sticks & stones by Holi revellers in UP

As per reports, the Holi revellers were in inebriated state when they entered the woman's house. They reportedly had beaten her to death with sticks and stone.

In yet another shocking incident, a senior citizen was beaten to death while five of her family members were critically injured after they were stopped by some Holi revellers from playing Holi outside their residence in Etawah in Uttar Pradesh.

As per reports, the Holi revellers were in inebriated state when they entered the woman's house. They reportedly had beaten her to death with sticks and stone. The incident took place in Mevati Tola locality on Monday afternoon.

The eyewitnesses at the spot informed that the Holi revellers stopped the old woman from playing holi, however, the latter didn’t paid heed to the revellers illogical demand and kept on enjoying the festival with her family.

“As the revellers were drunk, they entered the woman’s house and started beating her with stones and sticks. The family members tried to stop them, but they attacked the family members too”, an eyewitness said.

Additional Superintendent of Police (city) Prashant Kumar Prasad confirmed that that when other family members tried to save the woman, five of them, including two women and three children, were also beaten up.

The injured meanwhile have been admitted to a hospital and the body of the deceased has been sent for autopsy.

Further, in another incident, under Ekdil police circle in the same district, an inebriated youth drove a tractor at high speed and injured six people. The tractor also got damaged after hitting an electricity pole.

The youth was handed over to the police and the injured have been hospitalized, police said.

Local residents complained of such incidents taking place in the state on regular basis, while police acting as a mute spectator. They said there is a dire need to control such crimes as people are scared to move out of their houses especially the young girls and women.
