Army will airlift 23 mobile oxygen plants from Germany

A news of relief is there as the government has taken efforts to ensure needed supply of the crucial medical gas. Defence Minister on April 23 announced that “Armed Forces Medical Services has decided to import oxygen generation plants and containers from Germany, amid a shortage of oxygen in the hospitals. Also, 23 mobile oxygen generation plants are being airlifted from Germany that will be deployed in AFMS hospitals. 

On Friday The defence ministry said that Around 13 lakh i.e. 99 percent of Indian Army officers have been vaccinated with at least one dose of Covid19 vaccine. Nearly 82% of them have received both doses. According to the sources from Defence Ministry, nearly 15.5 lakh armed forces personnel have got the first dose, and over 11.7 lakh have received the second dose. 

Meanwhile, over 1 lakh healthcare workers are vaccinated with the first dose of vaccine and over 90,000 have received the second jab.

For now, around 400 army officers are under home isolation and are recovering. Meanwhile, the army has decided to turn its Base hospital in Delhi Cantonment which has 258 beds with oxygen supply into a Covid19 facility.

The coronavirus cases in the country are rapidly spiraling up as more than 3 lakh to 3.25 lakh cases are reported daily. In this critical situation, armed forces were asked to assist state governments and civil administrations in the battle against the Coronavirus pandemic.

Indian Armed Forces have also started admitting retired army personnel into Army hospitals. Army has opened its 500-bed hospital in Patna and 450-bed hospital in Lucknow. A hospital in Varanasi is also being opened which consists the capacity of 750 beds. In Ahmedabad, an army hospital with a capacity of 900 beds has been opened for the public. Due to the excess demand for oxygen cylinders, these hospitals are planning to double the number of beds with oxygen supply within a week.
