AAP issues 2nd list of candidates: Former IG Vijay Pratap, ex-congressman Raman Bahl among key names

The Aam Aadmi Party has announced its second list of 30 candidates for the nearing Punjab Assembly elections. Former Inspector General of Punjab Police Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh and former Congress leader Raman Bahl are among the key names who have been given a ticket by Kejriwal's party.

Previously, the party had announced ten candidates.

Ex IG Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh

The former Punjab Police officer Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh led the Special Investigating Team (SIT) probing the Kotkapura and Behbal Kalan shootings in 2015.

He has been allocated a ticket from the Amritsar North constituency. The IG had resigned after the Punjab and Haryana High Court dismissed the SIT's investigation into the Kotkapura shooting incident in 2015. Singh had retired voluntarily in April of this year and later joined the Aam Aadmi Party, giving a boost for the 2022 state elections.

Raman Bahl

Former Congress member Raman Bahl had quit the party last month and joined hands with AAP. He has been allocated to the Gurdaspur seat.

Jagroop Singh Sekhwan, son of former Punjab minister Sewa Singh Sekhwan, has been assigned to the Qadian seat.

Punjabi Singer Anmol Gagan Mann has also been given ticket. She will run for the Kharar seat while sitting MLA from the said constituency, Kanwar Sandhu, has been quashed by the party.

Meanwhile, Balkar Singh Sidhu will run for the Rampura Phul seat.

Vibhuti Sharma, Shamsher Singh, Sherry Kalsi and Balbir Singh Pannu will contest from Pathankot, Dina Nagar (SC), Batala and Fatehgarh Churian, respectively. Inderbir Singh Nijjar will run from Amritsar South, Laljit Singh Bhullar from Patti and Balkar Singh will contest on AAP ticket from Kartarpur (SC).


Ravjot Singh, Lalit Mohan, Daljit Singh will run from Sham Chaurasi (SC), Nawan Shahr and Ludhiana East constituencies.

Kulwant Singh Sidhu, Manwinder Singh, Naresh Kataria, Jagdeep Singh, Gurdit Singh Sekhon, Neena Mittal, Harmeet Singh, Chetan Singh, Madan Lal Bagga - all will contest from Atam Nagar, Payal (SC), Zira, Muktsar, Faridkot, Rajpura, Sanour, Samana and Ludhiana North seats, respectively.

Jiwan Singh will run on AAP ticket from Gill (SC), Gurlal from Ghanaur, Labh Singh Ugoke from Bhadaur (SC), Lal Chand from Bhoa (SC) and Harbhajan Singh will fight from Jandiala (SC) seat.

Gurmeet Singh Khudian (Lambi) has also been allocated ticket for upcoming elections.

Earlier, in November AAP had announced its first list of candidates for the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections.

The party has announced the candidacies of Jai Kishan Roudi from Garhshankar, Baljinder Kaur from Talwandi Sabo and Saravjit Kaur Manuke from Jagraon and other seven MLAs.

From Nihal Singh, Manjeet Bilaspur will contest from Aam Aadmi Party’s seat, Kultar Singh Sandhwan from Kotkaoura, Principal Budhiram from Budhlada and from Dirab, Harpal Singh Cheema will run for the party.

Aman Arora, Gurmeet Singh “Meet” Hayer and Kulwant Pandori will contest from Sunam, Barnala and Mehal Kalan, respectively.

All ten are first-time legislators.
