Ending speculation about his next political move, Punjab's former chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh has announced that he will form his own political party which will be open to a pre-poll alliance with the BJP.

While making the announcement, Captain Amarinder also hinted that the ongoing farmers' protest against three controversial farm laws passed by the centre could be ending soon, with the administration holding negotiations with their representatives.

His decision on whether or not to accept the BJP as a partner will depend on a successful conclusion of the farm laws issue.

Apart from the BJP, Amarinder stated he was considering forming an alliance with the Shiromani Akali Dal's breakaway factions, particularly the Dhindsa and Brahmpura factions for the upcoming elections. Talking about ideological qualms about teaming up with the BJP, Amarinder said he stood "for Punjab" and is "looking forward to fighting."

Capt Amarinder aims to "form a government."

Amarinder Singh and BJP complement each other

Capt Amarinder knows the importance of farmers in Punjab and thus stated he “stood for farmers.” Meanwhile, he said that the BJP is neither a communal party nor anti-Muslim.

Capt claims before the farmers' agitation there was no opposition to the Modi government in Punjab.

Amrinder Singh's words make it clear that he intends to make advances in Punjab until he reaches Delhi, and he needs the backing of the BJP to do so.

Meanwhile, Punjab elections are due in less than five months and it won't be wrong to say that chances of BJP are quite low as farmers protest continues. Amid the agitation, BJP needs a strong fielding in Punjab, which could be Capt Amarinder Singh.

Ousted Congress leader, Capt Amarinder on the other hand is aiming to do something bigger for the farmers of Punjab, for which he needs support from the BJP.

If Capt manages to resolve farmers issues, he could be the new Punjabi hero and both the senior leader and the saffron party could benefit from this.

Will farmers get MSP?

MSP is a significant issue in agricultural law.

Farmers have often demanded a contractual MSP guarantee and it will be a vital triumph for Captain Amarinder Singh if he is successful in obtaining this from the BJP.

Earlier, Capt Amarinder held a 45-minute meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Following the meeting, the Captain stated that he discussed the long-running farmers' movement against agricultural laws with Amit Shah. Apart from helping Punjab in crop diversification, Capt called for the laws to be repealed and the issue to be resolved quickly with the assurance of MSP.
