Detained under NSA in Dibrugarh Jail, Amritpal Singh's Lok Sabha membership has come under scrutiny ever after a petition was filed in the Punjab & Haryana High Court over his election. Independent candidate Vikramjit Singh has challenged Amritpal Singh's participation in Lok Sabha election in the Punjab and Haryana High Court. He has presented several arguments in the petition before the court. In this case, he has challenged the Election Commission of India, the Expense Officer of the Election Commission of Punjab, the Chief Electoral Officer of Punjab, and the Returning Officer of the Khadoor Sahib Lok Sabha constituency. The petition will be heard on August 6.

Vikramjit Singh has based his petition on 5 points. He also argued that Amritpal Singh had not given much information in his nomination documents. It has been hidden. The nomination paper is incomplete. Information about funds, donations, and expenses has been hidden.

Religious places have been used to seek votes. Election campaign material has been printed without permission. Without permission from the Election Commission Amritpal Singh, promotion on social media was done despite him being lodged in jail. Vikramjit Singh in his petition reportedly pointed that Amritpal contested the Lok Sabha elections from inside the jail. He did not even come to his area to campaign. But even after this, he achieved the biggest victory in Punjab. His supporters, acquaintances, and family members took charge of the campaign. After this, he was sworn in as MP on July 5 on parole.

Meanwhile, Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh moved the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Friday, seeking directions for quashing all proceedings against him under the act, including detention. The petitioner submitted in the High Court that his detention was "illegal" and, therefore, it was liable to be set aside.

Amritpal's petition reads, "it served no purpose whatsoever except to punish the petitioner for being vocal against the state and the Central governments on major political issues, which is a democratic right of every citizen of this country".
