In another path breaking initiative aimed at streamlining the traffic movement and decongesting the city, the Jalandhar Commissionerate Police led by Commissioner of Police Mr Swapan Sharma has divided the city in four zones by identifying 15 plot sites for vendor shops.

 

Divulging the details, the Commissioner of Police said that the primary cause of traffic congestion in the city was the vendors' markets. He said that to tackle this problem, the Commissionerate Police and Municipal Corporation led by Commissioner Mr Aditya had divided city in four zones and 15 sites with a large chunk of land have been identified for vendor shops. Mr Swapan Sharma said that the need of hour is to find a sustainable solution to the persistent traffic problem in Jalandhar.

 

The Commissioner of Police said that this roadmap is a positive step towards reducing traffic congestion, which will improve the quality of life for citizens by reducing travel times and minimizing the risk of accidents caused by heavy traffic. He said that a special campaign has been embarked to eliminate illegal encroachments and ensure smooth traffic flow in Jalandhar city adding that to achieve this goal a zero tolerance policy has been adopted towards encroachments.

 

The Commissioner of Police said that 15 vendor points have been established within four designated zones in the city, providing vendors with a new space to operate from. He said that vendors in the vending zones will be provided all the essential amenities including water and electricity adding that Emergency Response Support (ERS) will conduct regular patrolling to ensure the security of the area. Divulging more details, Mr Swapan Sharma said that city has been divided in four zones for shifting the vendors as per which zone I will include Transport Nagar Industrial Area (Focal Point Mandi), Bhagat Singh Colony Maqsudan Bridge (LHS), Sodal Mandir to By-pass road near Kali Mandir road near Majar side Green Belt, Lamma Pind Chowk near Chara Mandi (Truck Parking), Guru Gobind Singh Avenue Market, Verka Chowk to Focal Point near Beant Singh Park and Ladhewali.

 

Likewise, the Commissioner of Police said that zone II will include Chotti Baradari Phase-01 Opp. PIMS Hospital, PPR Mall towards Kewal Vihar Colony, Urban Estate Ph-02 Opp. Barista and Chotti Baradari Phase-01 Near Taj Restaurant Market. He said that zone III will comprise Kapurthala Road near the Irrigation Department Parking and Chick-Chick Chowk near and behind Ashoka Bakery (Milakbar) Adjoining Park. Mr Swapan Sharma said that zone IV will include Bhagat Singh Chowk near Water Tanki and Sdama Market near Jyoti Chowk.

 

The Commissioner of Police said that 480 vendors will be shifted to Transport Nagar Industrial Area (Focal Point Mandi), 320 Bhagat Singh Colony Maqsudan Bridge (LHS), 72 to Sodal Mandir to By-pass road near Kali Mandir road near Majar side Green Belt, 70 to Lamma Pind Chowk near Chara Mandi (Truck Parking), 20 to Guru Gobind Singh Avenue Market, 540 to Verka Chowk to Focal Point near Beant Singh Park and 196 at Ladhewali. Similarly, he said that 184 will be shifted to Chotti Baradari Phase-01 Opp. PIMS Hospital, new vends will be shifted to PPR Mall towards Kewal Vihar Colony, new vends will be shifted to Urban Estate Ph-02 Opp. Barista and new vends will be shifted to Chotti Baradari Phase-01 Near Taj Restaurant Market. Mr. Swapan Sharma said that 400 vends will be shifted to Kapurthala Road near the Irrigation Department Parking and 560 to Chick-Chick Chowk near and behind Ashoka Bakery (Milk bar) Adjoining Park adding that 80 vends will be allotted in Bhagat Singh Chowk near Water Tanki and new vends will be shifted to Sdama Market near Jyoti Chowk.
