Who is Milla Blake?
Apple Cider Vinegar showcases Milla Blake portrayed by Alycia Debnam-Carey, a 21-year-old young woman who loves to party hard but one day everything changes when she was diagnosed with undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma. Meaning, Milla Blake had tumors in her arms that were spreading rapidly. As a result, the Doctors suggested Milla to amputate her hand to stop the spread. However, Milla came up with another idea based on her research since she was also working for a magazine as a journalist. Despite doctors's refusal, Milla understood another treatment but it did not work out as after the initial decrease in her tumors, it all returned.
Is Milla Blake's character is real?
The answer is no. Despite the miniseries being based on a real story of Belle Gibson, the character of Milla Blake is fictional. As per Cosmopolitan, Samantha Strauss shared the inspiration behind the Apple Cider Vinegar and explained that she was focused on 'looking at a whole tapestry of people across the wellness and medical spaces.'
"I’d say Milla is a portrait of influencers at the time … She’s someone who is desperately trying to save her own life and becomes blind to the truth because of it," said Milla Blake.
However, fans are linking the character of Milla Blake to real-life Epithelioid Sarcoma victim Jessica Ainscough.
Who was Jessica Ainscough?
As Milla was working for a magazine in the series, Jessica Ainscough too worked for a magazine before being diagnosed with Epithelioid Sarcoma. Jessica Ainscough passed away aged 29 in 2015 from a rare form of cancer, Epithelioid Sarcoma, after being diagnosed aged 22.
The report quoted her blog which reads, "I didn’t chop off my arm. I didn’t go into aggressive, full-body chemotherapy. I didn’t accept that my doctor’s ‘solution’ was the only course of action. Speaking to The Booktopia Book Guru about her life before her diagnosis, Jessicaexplained, "Before cancer, I was working at Dolly magazine. It was an amazing life, but something even better was waiting for me. So, the universe gave me a big kick up the bum to force me onto a different path – the path I am supposed to be on."
