Nirbhaya's mother Asha Devi breaks down over AAP-BJP blame game, requests PM Modi to hang convicts on Jan 22

Breaking down, Asha Devi said, "Till now, I never talked about politics, I have only asked for justice with folded hands. But now I want to say that those people who protested on the streets with the tricolour and black flags in 2012, today they are playing with my daughter's death for political gains."

Post a day Delhi court stayed the capital punishment of four convicts in the Nirbhaya rape-murder case, the victim's mother Asha Devi has made a request to PM Modi saying "you came to power in 2014 saying promising safety of women, so please hang them on January 22".

In an interview to a news agency, Asha Devi criticised both BJP and AAP for blaming each other over the delay in the hanging of the four convicts, Mukesh Singh (32), Vinay Sharma (26), Akshay Kumar Singh (31) and Pawan Gupta (25).

Breaking down, Asha Devi said, "Till now, I never talked about politics, I have only asked for justice with folded hands. But now I want to say that those people who protested on the streets with the tricolour and black flags in 2012, today they are playing with my daughter's death for political gains."

A furious Asha Devi added, "Some are blaming the government for this delay in delivering justice while some are saying give us the police and we will hang the convicts in two days."

"Stop using us and my daughter for your political gains. I am stuck between the two parties in this struggle for justice, I feel used," she added.

Asha Devi then went on to request to PM Modi and said, "You came to power in 2014 saying 'bohot hua naari pe atyachar, abki baar Modi sarkaar', so please hang these rapists on January 22. I appeal to you with folded hands."

The BJP and the AAP engaged in a war of words on Thursday over "delay" in hanging of the Nirbhaya case convicts, with BJP blaming it on the Delhi government's "complicity" and "sympathies" for them, while the AAP accused its rival of "instigating" people with a "lie".

Union minister and BJP leader Prakash Javadekar said all the four convicts would have been hanged by now, had the AAP government acted quickly and served notices to them immediately after the Supreme Court of India rejected their appeal against death sentence in 2017.
