A female employee working as the deputy manager at the Punjab National Bank in Uttar Pradesh’s Sahanganj in Faizabad in Ayodhya reportedly was found hanging at her rented house on Saturday.

The 32-year-old woman identified as Shraddha Gupta has supposedly committed suicide leaving a note in which she lamed two policemen, officials said.

The matter is under investigation, said Ayodhya Senior Superintendent of Police Shailesh Pandey.

Shraddha’s feet were on the ground and also bent, therefore, the police are investigating the angle of murder and are waiting for the post-mortem report to determine the cause of death.

In her suicide note recovered from her room, the deceased had mentioned IPS officer Ashish Tiwari who was an SSP in Ayodhya, her ex-fiance Vivek Gupta, and one Anil Rawat from Faizabad Police. However, the note doesn't clear what they were accused of.

Shraddha Gupta had joined PNB bank in 2015 as a clerk and after clearing departmental exams and got promoted, the police said.  She was posted at Faizabad in 2018.

Gupta was unmarried and belonged to Rajajipuram locality of Lucknow and used to occasionally visit her family.

On Sunday morning, when Shraddha’s milkman knocked at her door and didn't get any response, he then informed Gupta’s landlord. When she did not open teh door, they peeped through the window and found her hanging from the ceiling.

Vivek Gupta has been taken into custody by the Ayodhya police for investigation and a case under Section 306 (abetment of suicide) of the Indian Penal Code, against Ashish Tiwari and three others at Ayodhya Kotwali has been registered.

The suicide note will also be closely examined,” said Ayodhya Range IG KP Singh, adding Ashish Tiwari’s role in the case will be probed.

Ayodhya SSP Sailesh Pandey said: "We got a call that the woman was not opening the door despite repeated knocks. We broke the door and entered the house to find her hanging from the ceiling with her dupatta wrapped around her neck."

Shraddha Gupta’s mother Suneeta has claimed that her daughter had come to know about Anil’s affair with many girls, so she refused to marry him. Shraddha’s cousin has alleged that the three persons named in the suicide note have harassed her so much that she took the extreme step. Anil and Ashish are friends of Vivek, her cousin informed.

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav expressing concern about the involvement of an IPS officer in the case has said it is a serious issue and demanded a high-level inquiry in the matter.

"The way the woman PNB employee in Ayodhya has levelled direct accusations at police personnel in her suicide note is a bitter truth about the poor law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh. It is a very serious issue that even an IPS officer's name is surfacing in this. There should be a high-level judicial inquiry," he said.
