As we enter the third week of April, planning your banking needs ahead of time is crucial to avoid the last-minute rush. In addition to the RBI’s designated public holidays, banks in India are also closed on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month. Of course, Sundays are a no-brainer, but note these extended off days while you schedule your banking activities in April.

Is Good Friday a holiday for banks?

April 18th is Good Friday, a Christian holiday widely celebrated worldwide. Banks in Punjab and several other locations will remain closed, except in Tripura, Assam, Rajasthan, Jammu, Himachal Pradesh, and Srinagar. 

Following Good Friday, the third Saturday (19th) is a working day for banks, providing a convenient opportunity to meet your banking needs. If you plan to apply for a loan or deal with extensive paperwork, starting now is best to avoid any delays.

Upcoming holidays in April to keep an eye on

April 20 is Easter Sunday, another widely celebrated festival of the year; banks are not open on Sundays anyway.

Garia Puja, a local tribal festival of Tripura, is on Monday, April 21. Banks will remain closed in the area during this festival.

The fourth Saturday of April is the 26th; public and private banks will remain closed pan India.

April 27 is a Sunday.

Tuesday, April 29, is observed as Bhagwan Shri Parshuram Jayanti, the birthday of Lord Parshuram, a significant Hindu festival. Therefore, the banks in Himachal Pradesh will remain closed.

Wednesday, April 30, is quite auspicious as Basava Jayanti (which celebrates Basavanna) and Akshaya Tritiya (the day of wealth and prosperity) fall on the same day. Banks in Karnataka and other states will remain closed.

While this holiday list may affect your branch visits, it's important to remember that Internet banking remains available. However, it's always good practice to be aware of your branch's holidays beforehand.
