Banur encounter: Two gangsters arrested in an encounter near Mohali

The police informs that these gangster were involved in two criminal incidents late last night.

Punjab Police engaged in an encounter with a gangster along the Patiala district border, close to Banur, Mohali. One of the gansters was shot in the leg by the police during cross-fire. He then collapsed in the fields, following which the police squad encircled him. The accused used to carry out crimes at the overseas gangster's command.

The gangsters have been identified as Deepak and Ramandeep. Police have recovered several weapons from their possession. After being shot, gangster, identified as Deepak is undergoing treatement.

They were reportedly travelling from Mohali when the police party intercepted them. In an attempt to evade arrest they opened fire on the police party who then retaliated in self-defence injuring one of them in the cross-firing. A revolver and a pistol have been recovered.

The police chased the gangsters for some distance before surrounding them on a bridge. The gangsters then ditched the car and tried to escape on foot before being shot in the leg and apprehended.

Police say that the accused have an extensive criminal background. Further investigation for other links is in progress. The operation was conducted under the supervision of AGTF Rajpura DSP Vikram Singh Brar. The police informs that these gangster were involved in two incident late last night. They threatened the store owner at one of these locations. Following this, they got into a fight with the Patiala Plaza toll workers, and as a result of the argument, these criminals also started shooting at the people from the toll plaza. They were captured on camera at that location. Following this, the Mohali and Rajpura police started to operate. The police then concluded their whereabouts to somewhere near Banur after investigation.
