In a major setback for American streaming giant Netflix and the makers of The Indrani Mukerjea Story: Buried Truth, the Bombay High Court on Thursday stopped the screening of upcoming docuseries. The Indrani Mukerjea Story: Buried Truth was slated to be released on Netflix on February 23, 2024. The Netflix's upcoming docuseries was made on the shocking Sheena Bora murder case which is still under investigation by the CBI. Therefore, CBI approached the Bombay High Court to halt the release of The Indrani Mukerjea Story: Buried Truth.

"Bombay HC has asked Netflix to stop screening of the web series on Indrani Mukerjea. The series was scheduled to be released tomorrow and the court has asked it to be stopped, the next hearing will be on Thursday (Feb 29)...Netflix has been asked to arrange a special screening for CBI officers. The CBI had objected saying that the web series could affect the investigation of the case, its outcome and people's perception."

Notably, CBI knocked on the Bombay High Court's door after a special CBI court in Mumbai on Tuesday rejected an application filed by the probe agency, seeking a stay on the release of the docu-series 'The Indrani Mukerjea Story: Buried Truth’.CBI special judge S P Naik-Nimbalkar said the court does not have the "inherent power" to stop the broadcast, and asked the probe agency to approach an appropriate forum if advised.

What was Sheena Bora's murder case?

Sheena Bora, 24, was an executive working for Mumbai Metro One based in Mumbai. Sheena went missing on 24 April 2012. In August 2015, Mumbai Police arrested her mother Indrani Mukerjea, her stepfather Peter Mukerjea, and her mother's driver, Shyamvar Pinturam Rai, for allegedly abducting and killing her and subsequently burning her corpse.

As per reports, Sheena Bora was allegedly strangled to death inside a car, purportedly by her own mother Indrani Mukerjea, along with her then-driver Shyamvar Rai and former husband Sanjeev Khanna. Bora, the daughter of Indrani from a previous relationship, met a gruesome fate, with her charred remains discovered in a forest within the Raigad district.
