It has now become more difficult to get Permanent Residency (PR) in Canada. As per the new rules introduced by the Canadian government, Labor Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) cardholders will now not receive the additional 50 points required to get PR under Express Entry. This new rule is going to affect those applicants who are applying for PR under the Express Entry program. This step has been taken to curb fraud LMIA based jobs.
LMIA is a document that a company gets to prove that it could not find a Canadian worker for the job and had to hire a foreign worker. This used to give applicants 50 additional points in their CRS score for work permit as well as PR.
Now applicants will have to adopt new methods to increase their CRS score. This step has been taken to stop fraud in the name of fake jobs. Students will now have to work on options like certification and language tests to get additional scores for PR.
With the removal of the 50 points associated with LMIA, applicants will now have to focus more on their educational qualifications, English or French language proficiency, and work experience to increase their CRS score.
This step is taken to stop the fraud where fake job offer letters were being sold for thousands of dollars. This new change will benefit genuine and qualified applicants.
Canada is planning to give PR to 4,85,000 people this year. But under the new rules, fake and wrong applicants will be excluded.
