Bhulath police have registered a case against two alleged travel agents on the complaint of a father whose son has been missing for the last eight months while going to France and is suspected to have died in France. SHO Harjinder Singh confirmed this, stating that no arrests have been made yet. The health department is handling the documentation related to DNA samples requested by the Latvian police. Bobby Chand, a resident of Ward 5 in Bhulath, reported to the police that his son, Sagar (18), was sent to France by a couple living nearby along with three travel agents. The agents demanded ₹14 lakhs to send his son to France, and Bobby Chand paid ₹7.20 lakhs as the first instalment. In the first week of January 2024, the travel agents sent Sagar to Russia, saying he would reach France via Belarus, Latvia, and Germany. In February, Sagar called to say he was in Belarus, but after that, he was out of contact for six months. Later, a friend of Sagar informed me that they were travelling from Lakhaniya through Latvia to Donki when it started snowing heavily. Five youths took shelter in a car, while three were stuck in the snow. It was later found that two youths managed to reach a safe place, but Sagar died in the snow. After the body was recovered, the Latvian government emailed the police, requesting DNA samples from the parents for identification purposes. Following this, Bobby Chand filed a complaint with the police, accusing the travel agents of fraud and demanding action. SHO Harjinder Singh confirmed that an FIR has been filed against Rajinder Kumar, son of Jagdish Chand from Kartarpur, and Gaurav Kumar, son of Pawan Kumar from Sangrur, under sections 420 and 406 of the IPC.
