CBI takes over probe of the Hathras gangrape and murder case

CM Yogi had also written a letter to the Centre government in this regard.

After the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister had recommended a CBI probe into the Hathras gangrape and murder case of 19-year-old, which has raged massive protests across the nation, the Centre government has finally decided to conduct the probe via CBI. India's apex investigative body, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has finally taken over the probe of the case. 

Notably, CM Yogi had also written a letter to the Centre government in this regard. 

On Saturday, the Centre's Department of Personnel and Training issued a notification allowing CBI to take over the investigation into the Hathras case. However, it is anticipated that the CBI will start its probe in the coming days.  

Reportedly, on October 3 UP CM Yogi Adityanath's office had first recommended a CBI probe into the Hathras case. Though it happened as Hathras administration and UP Police's handling of the case was not fair which erupted nationwide outrage.

Due to laxity in duty as many as four policemen, including a superintendent of police, have been suspended by the state government. However, the suspensions were recommended by a three-member SIT formed by the UP government to probe the matter. In addition, the state also ordered narco-analysis tests for the victim's family members. 

Meanwhile, the victim's family claimed that they were under the immense pressure from the Hathras district administration thus, they sought a judicial inquiry to it. 

Apart from this, it has also been alleged by them that the body of their daughter was cremated in the dead of the night without their consent.
