Centre moves SC, seeks permission to return excess acquired land to Ram Janmabhoomi Nyas

The central government has moved the Supreme Court and is seeking permission for the release of excess vacant land which has been acquired around the disputed Ayodhya site, to the Ram Janmabhoomi Nyas.

The central government in 1991 had acquired 67 acre land around the disputed site. Now, the Centre has asked for the release of 67 acres. Some 0.313 acres of land is disputed. The top court was moved for the modification of its March 31, 2003 order, directing the observance of status quo on the acquired 67 acres of undisputed land.

The Ram Janmabhoomi Nyas, which has right over 42 acres of this 67 acres, had moved the government seeking the return of those 42 acres.
