The government has set a deadline for Prime Ministers’ new official home. PM’s new palace is to be built by December 2022, meanwhile, the country’s health system crawls to its feet due to a lack of medical supplies. The Central Vista Project is designated as an ‘essential service’ so that lockdown does not limit the construction.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had ordered to rebuild some parts of New Delhi, and it was estimated that this project will cost billions. Meanwhile, the country is struggling with the devastating second wave of coronavirus and is pleading for help abroad.

The project covers an area as large as 50 football fields. India will get a new parliament building and the present 94-years-old building, built during the British Raj will become a museum.

The construction of a new official home for the Prime Minister is given priority along with headquarters of the Special Protection Group which is exclusively dedicated to the PM’s security and an executive enclave for bureaucrats.

The government of India is spending 20,000 crores on constructing buildings whereas National Capital Delhi is even running out of crematories and burial halls. Patients are dying due to a shortage of oxygen, hospital beds, ventilators, and other medical facilities. Several states have run out of vaccines, failing to start Phase III of vaccination.

Unfortunately, frontline workers are also struggling to get treatment after testing positive for Covid-19. People are losing their lives due to wrong and delayed decisions made by the government.

Several countries are coming forward to help India in one way or another, however, the Indian government still finds Central Vista more essential instead of using the money on oxygen supply, vaccines, and other medical facilities.

Opposition is continuously slamming the government for the decision and asking to divert the Central Vista Project Fund into the Covid relief fund. Recently, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had tweeted, “Central Vista- not essential. Central Govt. with a vision- essential.”
