CERT-In warns users, Whatsapp Vulnerability can lead to breach of sensitive information

The country's cyber agency has cautioned the Whatsapp users that WhatsApp has been detected with some issues.

The country's cyber agency has cautioned the Whatsapp users that the application has been detected with some issues which may lead to the breach of sensitive information.

According to the high severity advisory issued by the CERT-In or the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team, the problem has been detected in the software that has 'WhatsApp and Whatsapp Business for Andriod prior to v2.21.4.18 and WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business for iOS prior to v2.21.32." 

"Multiple vulnerabilities have been detected in the application which may lead to the cyber attack and could breach the sensitive information of the target audience", CERT-In claimed in the issued advisory.

Describing the risk of vulnerabilities the company said, "These vulnerabilities exist in WhatsApp application because of a cache configuration issue and missing bounds check within the audio decoding pipelines." It added, "Succesful exploitation of these vulnerabilities could allow the attackers to execute arbitrary code or access sensitive information of the targeted system." 

How to counter these vulnerabilities?

The advisory issued that the users of the instant messaging application should update their application from Google Play Store or iOS App Store to counter the vulnerability threats.

CERT-In is a national technology arm to fight against cyberattacks and to guard Indian cyberspace.
