An eighth standard girl, P Vaishnavi, recently wrote a letter to Chief Justice of India NV Ramana. In the letter, she demanded to restore the bus services to her village in the Rangareddy district as her siblings Preeti and Praneeth have been facing difficulties going to school daily. The bus services were decreased after the Covid-19 outbreak, she further informed.

She also highlighted the fact that it is financial, not possible for her family to hire an auto-rickshaw to go to school daily as his father expired during the first Covid-19 wave and her mother is the only breadwinner for the family.

As soon as the letter was received by the Chief Justice of India, he immediately took action and alerted the Telangana State Road Transportation Corporation (TSRTC) about the issue and asked to resolve it as it is a matter about the right of children’ education.

After the order was received by the TSRTC, VC Sajjanar, the managing director of the TSRTC, informed via Twitter that the bus service was restored. He tweeted, “TSRTC Management sincerely Thank the Hon'ble apex court Chief Justice of India CJI Ramana Sir for alerting us to restore buses to send students on school timings in token of honoring RTE”

He further wrote, “Spoke to P Vaishnavi also with her mother, greeted Diwali wishes and appreciated the baby (the student) for writing about the issue to CJI Ramana sir”.

This is not the first time that CJI Ramana has responded to the letter. In June, a fifth-grade student from Kerala wrote to the Chief Justice of India, praising the Supreme Court for its directives addressing the COVID crisis. The CJI responded to the schoolgirl with a heartfelt message, praising her for keeping up with key happenings in the country.
