In the spat between the Congress and the former Chief Minister, Punjab Deputy CM and home minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa has launched a personal attack against Amarinder Singh. Talking about security threats in Punjab, the minister has said that Capt’s close Pakistani friend should be investigated for alleged ISI links.

Mr Randhawa has demanded an investigation against Aroosa Alam, a Pakistani defence journalist who is said to be a close friend of Captain Amarinder Singh.

When asked about Aroosa Alam's viral photos and videos with Pakistani military officers, deputy CM talking to a renowned news channel said, "Captain says that Punjab faces a threat from the ISI. So we will also probe the relation of Aroosa Alam with ISI."

"For the past four and a half years, Captain Amarinder Singh has been highlighting the issue of drones crossing over from Pakistan. So he (Amarinder Singh) highlighted the issue first, and BSF was afterwards dispatched to Punjab. So it appears to be a large conspiracy that has to be investigated,” said Randhawa.

Randhawa further added that he has already ordered the Punjab police to investigate the links between Ms Alam and ISI.

The statement comes after Captain Amarinder announced his new party and revealed it will be open to alliance with Bharatiya Janata Party for the upcoming state elections.

Amarinder Singh yesterday accused Congress of double standards in its criticism of his proposals for an alliance with the BJP after Harish Rawat, who claimed that Capt had "killed the secular Amarinder within him."

He claimed the Congress had no right to talk about secularism because it had partnered with the Shiv Sena in Maharashtra and recruited many BJP leaders, including current Punjab Congress head Navjot Singh Sidhu.

Mr Singh had previously criticised Navjot Sidhu for attending Imran Khan's inauguration and hugging the Pakistani army chief in 2018. Aroosa Alam's name had even come up then.
