Coronavirus Updates: India’s COVID-19 tally crossed 75.5 lakh mark; 55,722 new cases reported in the last 24 hours

India recorded the lowest new Coronavirus cases in 5 days, there were 772,055 active cases of Covid-19 and the country’s death toll went up to 114,610, according to the health ministry’s data.

India reported 55,722 new Covid-19 cases, the lowest in five days. 579 deaths were reported between Sunday and Monday morning, taking the country’s tally over 7.5 million. The number of fatalities in the last 24 hours were also the lowest in months. According to the health ministry, there were 772,055 active cases of Covid-19 and the country’s death toll went up to 114,610, with an aggregate tally at 7,550,273. The active cases have been less than 800,000 for the third straight day. The ministry on Sunday said that India continues to report a decreasing active case and comprise 10.45% of the total positive cases in the country.  

As per a press release on Sunday, the health ministry said, “Following the national trend, 22 states and Union territories have less than 20,000 active cases. 13 states and Union territories have more than 20,000 but less than 50,000 active cases, while three states and Union territories have more than 50,000 active cases.”

Total recovered covid-19 cases in the country stand at 6,663,608 and the national recovery rate is 88.25%.

Covid-19 latest developments:

# The number of COVID-19 recoveries in Arunachal Pradesh has passed the daily new cases today, with 237 people recovering from the infection. 55 new infections pushed the caseload in the state to 13,406. Arunachal Pradesh currently has 2,824 active cases, while 30 people died due to the infection. The recovery rate now stands at 78.71 per cent. 

# According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 9,50,83,976 samples were tested for COVID-19 in the country until yesterday (October 18). Of these, 8,59,786 were tested yesterday.

# Assam reported three more deaths due to COVID-19 and 318 new infections, the lowest in four months, pushing the total state’s tally to 2 lakh.  The state has a total of 28,158 active covid-19 cases. By far a total of 43.22 lakh samples have been tested so far. 

# Sikkim reported 30 new COVID- 19 cases, pushing the state's tally to 3,597, while the death toll has increased to 60. The state now has 272 active cases, while 3,184 patients have recovered from the infection. 

# Telangana state records 948 new Covid-19 cases, total tally climbs to 2,23,059 whereas no new covid-19 cases were reported in Mizoram in the last 24 hours. The state's Covid-19 tally stands at 2,253.

# Andaman and Nicobar reported 25 new Covid cases and 20 recoveries today. The island has 4,108 total covid-19 cases, including 184 active cases, 56 deaths and 3,868 recoveries. 

# Himachal Pradesh records 170 new cases and 217 recoveries today. Total cases in the state have increased to 18,967, including 263 deaths and 16,040 recoveries. 

# West Bengal's coronavirus death toll crossed 6,000-mark with 64 more fatalities; a highest single-day spike of 3,983 cases taking the tally to 3,21,036 on Sunday.

# Schools across the country have reopened partially for classes 9 to 12 under strict covid-19 safety protocols. 

# Tamil Nadu reported  3,914 new COVID-19 cases and 56 deaths in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of positive cases in the state to 6,87,400. The total active cases stand at 39,121 and 6,37,637 recoveries. So far, 10,642 deaths have been reported from the state.
