Over 870,000 doses will be imported by Mexico from India of Astra Zeneca's Covid-19 vaccine in February. Mexico will then produce the vaccine locally as per President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador.
With financial support of billionaire Carlos Slim of Mexico, it is in agreement with Astra Zeneca to produce the vaccine and distribute in Latin America.
In a video broadcast on social networking, Slim said, “We are also getting AstraZeneca vaccines, apart from the agreement we have with them - these vaccines are being made here in Mexico - we will bring AstraZeneca from India.”
According to a report published in Reuters, the delivery of Pfizer vaccine to Mexico will resume from February 10 after production and distribution delays.
The death toll of Covid-19 patients in Mexico was recorded 156,579 on Friday.
Mexico will also get 870,000 doses of Russia's Sputnik V vaccine as per President Obrador. He made this announcement after he declared as infected by Coronavirus on Sunday.
According to the President, Mexico will also get 1.8
million Covid-19 vaccine doses under Covax facility of World Health
Organization (WHO).
