CP Jalandhar orders strict enforcement of Covid-19 protocol in the city

Orders stern drive against persons not wearing masks and violating social distancing norms as prescribed by government. Also directs to expedite the process of freezing of properties belonging to drug smugglers

In the wake of the fresh spike in Covid-19 cases and the new directions of state government on social gatherings, the Commissioner of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar today directed all the officials to strictly enforce the Covid-19 protocol in the district.

Presiding over a meeting with all GOs and SHOs, the Commissioner of Police directed them to launch a vigorous drive to check the violation of Covid-19 protocols including wearing masks and maintaining social distancing. He briefed all the officials about the latest guidelines issued by the state government with respect to indoor and outdoor gatherings. Mr Bhullar mentioned that as per the fresh guidelines only 100 persons are allowed in an indoor gathering and a cap of 200 persons has been fixed for any kinds of outdoor gatherings.

The Commissioner of Police said that these orders would come into effect from March, 1, 2021 till further orders adding that all the officials should ensure meticulous enforcement of the government’s order in true letter and spirit. He further asked officials to ensure maintenance of social distancing norms, regulation of crowds at public places, wearing of face masks and others so that this deadly virus could be kept at bay.

Meanwhile, dwelling on another agenda the Commissioner of Police directed all the field officers to further intensify their crackdown on drug smugglers and bootleggers by implementing zero tolerance policy against the perpetrators of these crimes. While reviewing the anti-drug drive, he instructed all the officials to ensure that the supply lines of drugs in the respective areas is completely snapped. Reiterating the firm commitment of the Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh led state government to wipe out the drug menace from the state, Mr Bhullar asked the officers to expedite the process of freezing of the properties of the drug smugglers booked under the NDPS Act.

The Commissioner of Police categorically said that the field officers at various levels will be held accountable for any activity of drug smuggling in their respective areas. He ordered all field officers to carry out systematic and detailed investigations into drug cases so that this menace can be completely wiped out. He further asked them to identify habitual offenders of drug cases and to initiate proceedings of preventive action as per laws against them to make Jalandhar a drug-free city.

Prominent among others present on the occasion included DCPs Gurmeet Singh, Jagmohan Singh and Arun Saini, ADCP HS Banipal besides all the other officers.
