Teachers in DAV College in Jalandhar & other branches are witnessing a financial crisis as many of them are yet to be paid their salaries from the last 20 months. DAV college teachers are reportedly forced to take loans to support their families and even pay for the petrol for vehicles they use to come to college. All three categories of teachers teaching in DAV College are not being paid. Reports suggest teachers who are supposed to be paid by the DAV administration have not been paid.
Apart from Jalandhar, KRM DAV College Nakodar teachers have also not received their salaries for the past many months. Teachers who have been hired from Management Quota have also not received their salaries. As per reports, the lack of student admission in the college & its other branches has amped up the financial crisis in the college administration. For the unversed, there are three categories of teachers who teach at DAV College.
The first category consists of teachers hired on a 95-5 basis, which means 95% of the salary is paid by the government & 5% by the administration, the second is 75-25 who are yet to be paid three to four months salary and the third category are teachers who are hired on Management quota meaning hired by College administration. Their salary is being paid 100% by the college management. Reports suggest that teachers hired from the management category are awaiting 20 months' salary, while others are awaiting three to four months' salary.
Notably, migration is among the many factors that cause students to not be admitted to such colleges. Apart from DAV College, there are 135 non-government-aided colleges, which get a 95 percent salary grant from the state government under the grant-in-aid scheme.
