A shocking incident was reported from Jalandhar in which a student of DAV Institute & Engineering Technology died by suicide. The deceased was identified as Shivam Chauhan, a student of BCA second year and a resident of Babu Labh Singh Nagar.

On Friday, Shivam Chauhan’s parents protested outside DAV College, Jalandhar, and raised slogans against the institution. The family has held college authorities responsible for their son’s death.

TrueScoop reached out to Dr. Manoj Kumar, Principal DAVIET and learnt about the issue that started last year. It was on December 24, 2021 when the deceased indulged in a fight with another student of college over a petty reason. The fight did not end there. Later, Shivam called some students from outside the college to teach the other student a lesson. The other involved in fight hid in hostel after he came to know that Shivam has called his friends. While one student who was trying to be the moderator got beaten up by Shivam’s friends.

Post this incident, an FIR was registered against Shivam by the family of the victim who was attacked. After the FIR, Shivam went underground and his family requested the college authorities to use their contacts in order to save their son from getting arrested. Responding to this, the authorities refused to do so which angered Shivam’s parents.

Dr. Manoj added the issue was never raised after that but when the news of Shivam’s suicide came out, his family alleged the authorities of their son’s death under baseless reasons.

He further said, “I was not even present when this incident took place last year. I came back 3 days after the incident and got to know about the whole issue.”
