The Delhi government has collaborated with Google to launch a system to enable commuters to track bus locations, arrival and departure times, and routes on a real-time basis on their smartphones. This initiative is taken by the government to smoothly run the intracity travel for the Delhiites. Commuters will be able to get all the relevant information about the buses on their smartphones with the use of Google Maps. This will not only ease their travel experience, but also, help in calculating the travel time for its users.





 

On the partnership with Google, Delhi’s Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot said that the position of 3,000 buses can be tracked on a real-time basis using the Google Maps app. He stated, “The status of around 3,000 buses is live. This will help commuters to track the buses through Google Maps. More DTC buses will be added soon.”

 

Apart from live tracking, passengers will be able to get an idea of ​​how long their journey is going to take on the app. Passengers will also get information in case the bus is late. “Google Transit will automatically update the times to suit the new terms,” ​​he said.

He further stated, “With today’s partnership with Google Maps, Delhi joins the league of global cities that provide real-time public transport information so that people can plan their trips up to the minute.”

 

Meanwhile, the minister has additionally expressed hope that this collaboration will encourage a number of different transit apps to faucet into the open information portal of the Transport division and create modern options to make Delhi`s public transport system the default selection for everybody.
