Delhi pizza delivery boy tests positive for coronavirus, 72 families along with patient's 17 colleagues put under quarantine

In Delhi, a pizza delivery boy of Malviya Nagar after showing symptoms for around 20 days has been found positive to novel coronavirus.

After the report broke out, health authorities detected 72 families in nearby areas who had been visited by the boy, also put under quarantine.

Reportedly, the pizza delivery boy is a resident of the Savitri Nagar area in Malviya Nagar, South Delhi. He had shown symptoms of coronavirus for around 20 days before finally testing positive for infection on April 14.

Authorities have identified 72 families in Malviya Nagar, Hauz Khas area that he had visited in the past 20 days and have now been put under home quarantine. He had also visited some hospitals in south Delhi.

Apart from these families, 17 other pizza delivery boys who worked with him have also been put under institutional quarantine.

Food delivery service provider Zomato has issued a clarification saying some of the deliveries made by the concerned restaurant were done via Zomato. "We are not sure whether the rider was infected at the time of delivery," the Zomato statement said.

Zomato has also said that the restaurant had directed all delivery boys to wear masks and take necessary precautions. But in relief, all other delivery boys working with coronavirus positive patient have tested negative for contagious disease. 

Pizza joint Dominos has also issued a clarification saying the incident doesn't have anything to do with them.

After Maharashtra, Delhi is worst affected by the virus and has the second-highest number of coronavirus cases in India. So far, more than  1,500 people have tested positive for the novel coronavirus in NCR. 

As per the latest data provided by the Health Ministry, India's death toll has touched 414 while the total number of cases has crossed the mark of 12,000.
