Punjabi singer AP Dhillon on August 16, 2024, penned & sung an emotional song dedicating it to the victim of the Kolkata Rape & Murder case. AP Dhillon took to his Instagram story and shared a note that said, "Woke up today wanting to let my thoughts out the only way I know how". In the next slide, AP Dhillon was seen sitting and singing a song dedicating it to the trainee doctor who was brutally raped & mercilessly killed in the state-run Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

AP sang the song in Punjabi in which he presented the perspective of the victim and other women & girls who feel unsafe. In his tribute, AP also discussed the inherent strength of women and how society still fails while pleading for justice for the victim in the song.

The translated lyrics read, "She has saved many lives and souls. God, how could her fate end so tragically? She was not safe even in a place where everyone knew her. Today, we all ask you, is it a curse to be born a girl in this world? For the women who have transformed the world, society has refused to change around them, though they have swum oceans worth of progress, society has barely moved an inch. What happened 12 years ago continues to happen today. Why do we still have to march for women to live in peace?"

It is pertinent to mention here that from common people to Bollywood celebrities, everyone on social media is expressing their anger over the incident. In fact, many are also raising questions on West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee.

Update on Kolkata Rape & Murder Case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday took Sandip Ghosh, the controversial former principal of state-run R.G. Kar Medical College Hospital, to the agency's Salt Lake office for questioning in connection with the rape and murder of a junior doctor at the hospital premises last week. However, it is not clear yet whether Ghosh has been arrested or he has been detained for interrogation.

The development came hours after Ghosh approached the Calcutta High Court with a plea seeking police protection. However, the court directed him to file a proper petition in the matter following which it will be taken up for hearing next week. He is currently on leave after the Calcutta High Court on Tuesday gave a clear instruction to the state Health Department not to appoint Ghosh, who stepped down as the principal of R.G. Kar on Monday, as the head of any medical college in the state until further orders.

Notably, hours after resigning as the principal of R.G. Kar citing “moral responsibility” on Monday, Ghosh was appointed as the principal of the Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital (CNMCH), triggering protests by the medical students and junior doctors of CNMCH.
