Prime Minister Narendra Modi today unveiled Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission and now every Indian will get a digital health ID under this newly launched scheme.
The government stated that the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission will play an important role in the digital health ecosystem, adding that "people will now be only a click away from accessing healthcare services."
"The Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission will now assist in the connectivity of digital health solutions throughout the country. This initiative will provide all Indians with a digital health ID," Prime Minister stated, adding that "every citizen's health record would now be digitally secure and digitisation will make healthcare easier."

Here are a few FAQs regarding the Digital Health ID and registration procedure

  • What is Digital Health ID?
The digital health ID is a 14-digit number that will be used to uniquely identify people, authenticate them, and thread their health records across many systems and stakeholders with their informed consent. 
This ID will be generated for every Indian citizen under Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission and will serve as their health account, to which personal health records can be linked and viewed via a mobile application.

  • How to apply for Health ID?
One can receive a Health ID by self-registering themselves on the Health ID site or by downloading the ABDM Health Records app from the Google Playstore. 
People can also get their Health ID generated at a participating health facility which could be a public or private hospital, a community health centre or a health and wellness centre anywhere in India.

  • What do I need to apply for registration?
To get Health ID through Mobile Number, you just have to fill in basic details like Name, Year of Birth, Gender, Address, Mobile Number. 
To get Health ID through Aadhaar Card, you need to fill in your basic details like Name, Year of Birth, Gender, Address, Mobile Number and Aadhaar Number.
So far, you can get your health ID only by using an Aadhaar or mobile number. However, the Government will soon roll out features that will support other ID documents such as PAN card, Driving License.
  • Is it necessary to have Aadhaar, to create a Health ID?
No, using Aadhaar is entirely optional. You can also use your mobile number with self-declared information.
  • My Aadhaar number is not linked to my mobile number. How do I use my Aadhaar card to get Health ID?
You must go to a participating facility near you and choose biometric authentication with your Aadhaar number. You will get a Health ID at the facility after successful authentication.
  • How long will it take to register?
Registration takes less than 10 minutes because you only need to fill up your basic information and verify your mobile number or Aadhaar number.

  • Do we need any physical documents for registration?
There is no need to submit any physical documents. Registration in the Health ID initiative is completely paperless.
  • What to do if I forget my password?
You can change your password by logging into your Health ID using a Mobile OTP or an Aadhaar-linked Mobile OTP. If you continue to have problems, you can email at ndhm@nha.gov.in or use phone number 1800-11-4477 / 14477.
  • What should you do if you've entered incorrect passwords and are locked out of your account?
On three consecutive incorrect tries at a time, one mode of authentication (Password/ Mobile OTP/ Aadhaar OTP) is disabled for 12 hours. If you've been locked out of your Health ID account due to a forgotten password, you can try a different way of authentication. 
You can log in using any of the remaining methods. 
If you've been locked out of all three methods of login, you won't be able to log in for 12 hours.
  • Can I delete my Health ID?
Yes, a user's Health ID can be permanently deleted or temporarily deactivated.
If a user's Health ID is deactivated, they might opt to reactivate it later. However, on the deletion of your Health ID, all of your demographic information will be permanently removed.
