In a bid to address the menace of stray cattle besides ensuring an adequate supply of potable water, Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori on Friday approved Rs. 84.53 lakh for the construction of a cattle pond in village Kanian in Shahkot block and a new water supply scheme in village Baghela of Nakodar block.

While chairing a meeting of the district mineral foundation, the deputy commissioner directed the Rural Development & Panchayati Raj and Water Supply and Sanitation Departments to submit their detailed proposals so that requisite funds could be transferred for these projects.

The deputy commissioner said that both the project are of vital importance as one aimed at eliminating stray cattle problem while another focuses on ensuring clean drinking water to people.

He said that funds worth Rs. 38.55 lakh would be incurred from the district mineral funds to build a cattle pond at village Kanian in Shahkot block while a sum of Rs. 46.03 lakh to be spent on a new water supply scheme in Baghela village.

The deputy commissioner said that this would cater to the needs of the population of nearly 4000 belonging to village Baghela, Vehra, and Raipur Araiyan. The scheme entails laying of new water supply pipelines and providing functional tap water connections in all the households of these three villages, he added.

Meanwhile, reviewing the status of recovery under the mining law, the deputy commissioner directed the revenue officials to expedite the process of attaching properties of defaulters as per the norms. Further, he directed the officials of the food and civil supplies department not to issue certificates to brick kiln owners unless they produce the requisite NOC from the mining department.
