Notably, hospital and medical officials of India have been on strike and the OPDs are not functional for past many days as part of the protest against Kolkata doctor rape & muder case. Below is what happened in the Supreme Court in terms of doctors resume work and OPDs functionality-

PGI Chandigarh doctors informed the Supreme Cour that doctors are being victimised. they rally one hour in morning and then they are working.. but they are also...

In response, the CJI said, "The seasoned directors who helm these institutions will never do something like this." On this, PGI doctors said. "Their casual leaves are being deducted."

Thereafter, CJI Chandrachud said, "Once they get back to duty we will prevail upon authorities to not take adverse action, else how will public health infrastructure run if the doctors do not work."

Thereafter, AIIMS Resident Doctors Nagpur made a mention saying, "On account of their protest, they are now being attacked. They are not being allowed for exams..."

On this the CJI said, "If they are on duty they will not be marked absent and if they are not on duty then law will be followed. Ask them to first return to work.. no one will take adverse action against any doctor.. if there is difficulty after that then come to us.. but let them first report to work."

Now, the onus are on doctors whether they will return to work and resume the normal functioning of OPDs and other departments of the hospital in India. However, after Supreme Court's request and directives, it is expected that Doctors may resume their work tomorrow onwards. The final direction is yet to come.
