DRDO launches first batch of Anti-Covid drug 2-DG

Clinical trials have documented the fast recovery in hospitalized patients. The drug is proven to reduce the dependence on medical oxygen, thus will be of immense benefit to Covid19 patients.

Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh today launched the first batch of anti-covid drug 2-DG by Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO). Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan and AIIMS Delhi Director Dr. Randeep Guleria were also present during the release of the drug.

Over 10,000 doses of the anti-covid drug 2-deoxy-D-glucose (2-DG) were launched. The medicine comes in powder form and should be taken orally by dissolving it in water.

It has been developed by a DRDO lab, the Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Allied Scienced (INMAS) in collaboration with Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories, Hyderabad.

Whilst the release of medicine, the Health Minister said, “The anti-covid drug 2-DG may be our first indigenous research-based outcome to fight against Covid-19. It will reduce the recovery time and oxygen dependency.”

Saying under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the DRDO has played a significant role in the fight against Covid19, he further added, “Not just for India but I hope it serves in the fight against Covid globally in the coming days. I thank and congratulate DRDO and ts scientists.”

On this achievement, Rajnath Singh said, “We will not be at ease and will not be tired but will keep fighting and will win against Covid19. Now medicide issue is also not there much”. He further said that under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi, the issue of oxygen production has been resolved with collective effort.
