The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on January 18, just weeks before assembly elections, carried out raids at ten different locations belonging to Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi's nephew Bhupinder Singh Honey, in connection with a Prevention of Money Laundering case pertaining to illegal sand mining in Punjab.

Bhupinder Singh Honey was summoned by ED but he failed on the grounds that he has sought medical treatment due to Covid-19. His business partner Kudrat Singh appeared before ED but refused to give any details.

The agency had seized ₹10 crores besides other valuables from Bhupinder Singh and his business partner Sandeep Kumar during the raid that went on till January 19.

According to sources, two out of three directors of the company were summoned on Monday by ED. Further investigation is being carried out by ED in an illegal sand mining case. ED has asked them again to appear before them.

CM Channi came forward after the raid at his Nephew Bhupinder Singh Honey's home. CM said that this is the misuse of ED by the central government. The raid is being conducted to target him and put pressure on him before the elections. This is not good for the country's democracy.
