In the lead up to the Lok Sabha Elections 2024, several politically motivated posts are going viral on social media making derogatory claims about the opposition. In one such incident, a photo of Maharashtra Chief Minister, Eknath Shinde is going viral on social media. In this photo, CM Shinde can be seen eating food with famous YouTuber Kamiya Jani known by her channel, Curly tales.

It is being claimed that this photo is of Ram Navami and Shinde is eating mutton on the holy day of Ram Navami. This photo was shared by many verified and non-verified users on X, targeting the NDA. Another user, which is a pro Congress user on X also shared the photo, saying "Modi ji, any comments? Or has BJP innovated Vegetarian Mutton?"

However, with the prominence of fake news and misinformation during the election season, it is important to know the difference between the fact and the hoax. So the question arises, was Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde eating non-veg on Navratri? Here’s the truth:

Fact Check: Is the claim true or false?

The original video was posted by Curly Tales on Instagram on April 18, 2024. In the video, it can be seen that Kamiya asks CM Eknath Shinde whether he can tell what is there in the plate. In response to this, Shinde shows the dishes in his plate and tells their names saying "this is brinjal bharta, this is brinjal vegetable, this is patodi vadi" and so on.

Kamiya Jani wrote in the caption of the video - I enjoyed a very delicious vegetarian Saoji meal with the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Shri Eknath Shinde on the auspicious day of Ramnavmi in Umred, Maharashtra. The local women of the village prepared a very special vegetarian Saoji meal for us and it was very delicious.

It is clear that the claim being made with the viral video on social media is completely wrong. Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde had eaten Maharashtra's famous vegetarian Saoji food, not mutton or non-veg, on the occasion of Ram Navami.

Conclusion: The Claim being made in the viral video is False.
