Farmers protest in Chandigarh today; Know which routes to avoid amid 'farmers march to Punjab Vidhan Sabha'

Apart from farmers march to Punjab Vidhan Sabha in Chandigarh, a Maha Panchayat has also been called today by the United Kisan Morcha (SKM).

Under the banner of Bharatiya Kisan Union (Ekta Ugrahan) and Punjab Khet Mazdoor Union, farmers are preparing to march towards Punjab Vidhan Sabha in Sector-34 of Chandigarh on Monday on the issue of farming policy. The administration has permitted a group of 11 farmers to go ahead. At the same time, a Maha Panchayat has been called today by the United Kisan Morcha (SKM). At the same time, the Maha Panchayat of farmers will start from 11:30 am and is expected to conclude till 3:30 pm. On the other hand, strict arrangements have been made by the police. Amid the farmers march aka Kooch and Mahapanchayat, the Chandigarh Traffic Police have announced traffic diversion for the common people so that they don't get stuck in traffic jams for long hours. 

A meeting was also held between the administration and the union leaders for about 3 hours to stop the march to be taken out by BKU Ekta Ugrahan. However, no consensus could be reached. Below is Chandigarh traffic diversion details-

Sarovar Path - Gaushala Chowk (Sector 44/45-50/51 Chowk) to Budail Chowk (Sector 33/34-44/45 Chowk) to Sector 33/34 Light Point to New Labor Chowk (Sector 33/34-20/21 Chowk)

Sector 34 - Traffic will be diverted/restricted on Sector 34's V-4 road and Sector 34 A/B i.e. Shyam Mall's V-5 road towards T-point in front of Polka Bakery, near Flowers Market and near Dispensary.

From Sector 33/34 Light Point to Sector 34/35 Light Point.

Dakshin Marg - No turning is allowed on Sarovar Path for general public.

Shanti Path - Traffic will be redirected from Sector 33/45 Light Point; turning towards Sarovar Path is not allowed.

Since a left turn is not allowed for vehicles coming from (Sector 43/44/51-52 Chowk) Mataur Chowk towards Gaushala Chowk (Sector 44/45-50/51 Chowk), people are advised to take left turn at Mataur Chowk only.

For vehicles coming from Faida Light Point, right turn is not allowed at Gaushala Chowk (Sector 44/45-50/51 Chowk); people are advised to take right turn at Sector 45/46-49/50 Light Piquin.
