Former Hockey Olympian and AIG Traffic Gagan Ajit Singh was appointed as the first chief of Punjab CM Bhagwant Maan’s ‘Sadak Suraksha Force’ (Road Safety Force) in a major Punjab Police reshuffle. SSF is CM Bhagwant Mann’s dream project to increase Road Safety in the state and decrease accident fatalities to a minimum. It’s announcement was made by the CM on his official account on X (formerly twitter), and will be in full effect starting February 1.
Gagan Ajit Singh was born on 9 December 1980 in Firozpur, a city in the Indian State of Punjab. His father Ajit Singh was also an Olympian and played for India at the 1976 Montreal Olympics. His uncle is another Olympian Harmik Singh. Gagan Ajit was educated at the Union Academy Senior Secondary School and Jamia Millia Islamia in New Delhi.
Singh trained in hockey at the Government Arts and Sports College in Jalandhar in 1995. In 1997, he was selected by New Delhi's Air India Hockey Academy to compete in the junior national tournament. Singh scored 26 goals and emerged as the tournament's top-scorer. He captained the side in 1999.
CM Bhagwant Mann said that this will be the first force in the country which will be dedicated to road safety and traffic management. 144 hi-tech vehicles and 5000 employees will protect people on the roads. Also, no police in the country has as many high-tech vehicles as SSF does. CM Bhagwant Mann will reach Jalandhar's P.A.P. ground today. Where he will launch the 'Road Safety Force'. After which SSF will be seen in full active mode from 1st February.
