Social media influencer Gaurav Taneja aka Flying Beast recently appeared at Shark Tank India Season 4 to seek an investment for his supplement brand Beast Life. Gaurav Taneja aka Flying Beast who often breaks the internet could not break the deal at Shark Tank India Season 4 after he refused to answer many questions about the sharks. Gaurav Taneja pitched his supplement brand in front of sharks like Vineeta Singh, Kunal Bahl, Aman Gupta, Peyush Goyal, and Anupam Mittal. However, Shadi.com founder Anupam Mittal called Gaurav Taneja a terrible entrepreneur after he refused to Vineeta's question on how much he earns as a social media influencer.
Why did Anupam Mittal call Gaurav Taneja a 'terrible entrepreneur'?
Pitching his supplement brand at Shark Tank India Season 4, Gaurav Taneja said, "Beast Life is a health supplement brand that uses ultra-absorbing tech formula which makes it light and easy digestible. We offer 100 percent authentic products. If someone proves that our claims on the label are unverified then we will reward them Rs 10 lakh cash."
Another founder Raj said, "In the first hour of its sale after the launch (May 10, 2024) we sold supplements worth Rs 1 crore."
Taneja asked for a Rs 1 crore investment in exchange for 1 percent of equity i.e. company's valuation of Rs 100 crore.
Talking about himself, Gaurav Taneja revealed, "I was born in Kanpur and did my schooling there. After that, I did my engineering at IIT Kharagpur. My father wanted me to do a Masters in Civil Engineering. But, I had no interest. I went to the US to learn flying. I completed my flying there."
Vineeta then asked, "So you completed your Btech and then became a pilot?"
Gaurav responded, "Yes".
"I returned to India in 2008 as the US was hit a recession. I worked as a flight instructor in two to three organisation. I started flying as a captain for 10 years. 1 year for Air Asia and the rest for Indigo. I attended a bodybuilding show in 2013. After 1 year I participated in it and won Mr. Delhi in 2014. Then my journey as an influencer started," added Gaurav Taneja.
After Raj revealed that Beast Life did a business of Rs 1 crore that too on a password-protected website, Vineeta said, "It is quite clear that influencers have too much power and you are probably one of the biggest influencers in India. Can you tell us if you work as an influencer full-time then how much do you earn?"
Gaurav responded, "How much do I earn? Mam my wife will hit me."
Anupam Mittal jumped in and said, "You have come here for investment. If you cannot disclose it fully then we don't know what we are investing in.
Gaurav countered, "But that is my personal and nothing to do with the brand I am here for."
Anupam reverted, "It's not like that. You have made your image. You have made your business and then you will bring other investors. That's not the game I play. If you want to play that I will be out right now."
Peyush Goyal then asked about what influencers can generate if he/she has 1 million followers. Gaurav answered, "Rs 10 lakh per month."
Anupam then tried to dig more into active monthly users on Flying Beast's YouTube channel. Gaurav again said, "Sir, we did not keep data on my social media. I come here from a business point of view."
Peyush then asked that celebrities nowadays invest in or run multiple brands and which zone he is in. "...I am like money keeps on coming even during my sleep," said Gaurav Taneja.
Listening to this, Anupam Mittal said, "You are a good influencer but a terrible entrepreneur so far. You cannot outsource entrepreneurship. As the business grows, responsibilities will also grow. One last question any other business of yours? "
In the end, Gaurav Taneja could not get any deal at the Shark Tank India Season 4.
