On November 23, 2024, Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) officers at Amritsar Airport intercepted a passenger traveling on SpiceJet Airlines flight SG-56 from Dubai due to his suspicious behavior.
During a personal search conducted under Section 102 of the Customs Act in the presence of two independent witnesses, officials recovered four pouches of gold in paste form. The pouches, weighing 2674 grams (gross), were concealed in the passenger’s underwear and knee straps on both legs.
The extracted paste was processed into two 24-karat gold bars with a net weight of 1935.14 grams, valued at ₹1,50,32,167. The smuggled gold was seized under a panchanama and seizure memo on November 23, 2024.
The passenger was arrested at 1:15 AM on November 24, 2024, under Section 104 of the Customs Act, 1962. Further investigations are ongoing.
