The tech giant, Google has announced new features for Google Maps aimed at enhancing user experience, including a fuel-saving feature that will provide details of landmarks between locations and enable users to track local trains. Other features include Google Lens, Live View Walking, Lens in Efficient Routing, Address Descriptor, and Local Train Support.

The company has stated that these upcoming features will initially be available for Android users, with plans to subsequently roll them out for iOS users. Google has emphasized that the primary goal of these features is to create localized maps tailored to the specific needs of Indian users. Additionally, the company aims to develop a more comprehensive map for India that caters to the diverse requirements of the country.

Where is My Train

In a bid to enable users to easily track live train locations, Google will be introducing the "Where is My Train" feature for Mumbai and Kolkata local trains.

Google Lens Support

Following the introduction of the Street View feature in Google Maps last year, which allows users to view locations in real time, the company is now set to incorporate lens support into the map. This feature will enable users to click on different places within a street view and identify the specific landmarks present. The rollout of this feature is scheduled to commence in 15 cities across the country from January 2024, with plans for further expansion.

Address Descriptor

With the introduction of the address descriptor feature, users sharing a pinned location will be able to view information about five landmarks and notable places surrounding the address within the app. This functionality aims to assist users in locating unfamiliar destinations with ease and reaching their intended locations without difficulty.

Live View Walking Navigation

This feature will provide pedestrians with navigational guidance as they walk, using arrow marks to indicate the direction to take. The user's phone will vibrate to signal when to turn left or right, and upon reaching the destination. Google has revealed that Live View Walking Navigation will be available in 3,000 cities across the country.

These new features are part of Google's ongoing efforts to enhance the functionality and usability of Google Maps, catering to the specific needs of users in India and beyond.
