Update: Punjab Police have denied any kind of molestation or harassment took place with the doctor of Guru Nanak Dev Hospital, Amritsar. As per the information received, ACP Maninder Pal Singh said that a man entered the area with the intention of stealing. ACP Pal informed that the resident female doctor was going to her room after finishing her duties when a man on a motorcycle tried to rob her.

Amdi the burning debate over doctor's safety after the Kolkata rape & murder case, a resident doctor in Amritsar, Punjab was molested by two men. A female Resident Doctor of Guru Nanak Hospital while on her way to hostel was molested by two bike-borne miscreants. The incident took place on September 2 when the doctor was going to the hostel after finishing her duty when two men riding on a motorcycle approached her. The situation was so serious that the Resident Doctor had to run away from the spot and save herself.
As per the information received, the victim informed the doctor of her ward about the incident. Thereafter, she complained about it to the Principal of the Medical College. Following this, Guru Nanak Dev Hospital's Principal informed the local Police and also filed a complaint. The Police have started an investigation into the case.
Police Officer Harmanjit Singh Ball informed, "The Resident Doctor hails from New Delhi. The incident took place around 10 to 10:30 pm in the night. We were also on patrol during that time but we were not informed during that time. The incident took place at the backside of the building."
Notably, the Police are currently checking CCTV footage of the area and trying to identify the miscreants who molested Guru Nanak Dev Hospital's Resident Doctor.
It is pertinent to mention here that multiple AIIMS doctors as well as other hospital doctors went on a strike demanding strict action against the RG Kar Hospital rape & murder accused. Furthermore, the doctors had demanded a strict law ensuring safety of doctors against violence. It was due to Supreme Court's request, doctors resumed their work and OPDs started to function normally. Supreme Court also constituted a committee on safety of medical professionals to have wider consultations. The first meeting of the National Task Force (NTF), set up to ensure the safety of medical professionals at the workplace, in accordance with directions of the Supreme Court, was held on Tuesday (August 27, 2024).
