Omicron Threat: Himachal & Madhya Pradesh report first case of variant, both came from abroad

Today, India crossed the mark of 400 Omicron cases and Himachal Pradesh, as well as Madhya Pradesh, reported their first case of the variant.

On Sunday (December 26), two Indian states – Himachal Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh reported their first Omicron case. Both cases were, reportedly, returned from abroad. In Madhya Pradesh, eight people were tested positive for the virus, whereas, in Himachal Pradesh, nine people were tested positive. 

In Himachal Pradesh, the positive tested woman returned from Canada with a negative RT-PCR report and here other three contacts were also tested negative. “Himachal Pradesh reported the first case of Omicron. The person had returned from Canada on December 18. The patient's latest RT-PCR is negative and her three close contacts have also tested negative,” said the State Health Department said.


On the same breadth, in Madhya Pradesh out of eight people, six have been returned to their home after treatment and the other two have been receiving treatment.

Today, India reported 415 Omicron cases, this figure does not include the cases from Himachal and Madhya Pradesh. Till now, the highest number of cases have been reported from Maharashtra (108), followed by New Delhi (79). Apart from the capital, six other states have recorded two-digit Omicron cases, including, Gujarat (43), Telangana (38), Kerala (37), Tamil Nadu (34), Karnataka (31) and Rajasthan (22).
