BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma has recently sworn in as the Chief Minister of Assam and guess what he had already predicted about it 30 years before.

Going by the media reports, when Himanta was 22 he had told his wife Riniki Bhuyan (17 then) that one day he would become the Chief Minister of Assam.

And almost after 30 years he actually proved it. Biswa’s wife Riniki Bhuyan asserted that during our college days at Cotton College in Guwahati, Himanta once told me to tell my mother that he will be the CM of Assam one day.

She further added, “He was certain about his future goals what. What he told me at the age of 22 has now come true.”

Recalling the conversation of May 9, Riniki said when Himanta returned home he just said “Designated Chief Minister.” Astonished on hearing, I asked ‘who’?

“He said me,” Biswa’s wife exclaimed.

Proving the predictions right, Himanta Biswa Sarma on May 10 took oath as the 15the CM of Assam at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra in Guwahati. To capture the moment of pride and glee, his mother Mrinalini Devi, wife Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, daughter and son were present among others.

Divulging the details of their married life, Riniki said, “We tied the knot when Himanta was an MLA and then he became a minister. I have seen him working tirelessly and managing all situations.”

“Now, he has sworn in as the Assam Chief Minister, I actually need time to realize it,” she added.

Pertinently, during his student life, Himanta was an active student leader of All Assam Students Union (AASU) and had joined the politics in 1994.

Considering his dedication towards his work, then CM and Congress leader Hiteswa Saikia appointed him as the member secretary of the state-level advisory committee for students and youth welfare in 1994. After taking the charge, Himanta diligently worked for the welfare of the students particularly in the field of sports, culture, and literature.

In 1996, Biswa got his first election ticket from the Jalukbari constituency, however, had to face defeat against the powerful politician Bhrigu Kumar Phukan by 17128 votes.

However, in 2001, he was able to win the Assembly Elections on the earlier fought constituency. And since then, he hasn’t witnessed any defeat and is counting on the vote gain that he gets with each passing election.
