Hoshiarpur police led by SSP Navjot Mahal solves honour killing case, arrests two including brother

Hoshiarpur, May 9, 2021: The Hoshiarpur Police has solved an honour killing case and arrested two people including the victim’s brother on Sunday. The woman identified as Manpreet Kaur was brutally murdered by unknown persons near village Sikri Bullowal, Hoshiarpur district last month, on April 22. 

Her dead body was found shot nine times. On the statement of Manpreet’s father-in-law Rashpal Singh, FIR was registered under Section 302/34 IPC, 25-54-59 Arms Act.

While addressing the media, Navjot Singh Mahal, SSP Hoshiarpur shared that the police took this case as a challenge and two teams were constituted to solve the case. 

The officer informed that during the investigation, it was found that Manpreet’s brother Harpreet Singh along with his friend Iqbal Singh carried out the crime. 

“During the interrogation, he (Harpreet Singh) confessed that his sister Manpreet got married to Pawandeep Singh against family wishes. Harpreet claimed that later on she filed a divorce petition and wanted to return to her family which was unacceptable by Harpreet Singh. Hence, he planned to murder his sister Manpreet. Along with the sense of shame, his brother was also afraid that she would take away the property of around 3 kila that she got registered in her name in 2018” SSP Hoshiarpur informed.

As per the police, Manpreet got married to Pawandeep Singh in 2012 and since then haven’t returned to her parents’ home.

Mahal expressed that it was well-planned. “For carrying out this brutal crime, they used a vehicle of an Innova Car that did not belong to them. They called Manpreet around 1:30 am and asked her to come out. They got her in the car and took her outside the village periphery. First, they suffocated her and shot her nine times. They succeeded to escape from the crime scene but our team worked hard to solve this case and both are arrested now. We have also recovered a licensed revolver that was used in the crime and three-vehicle out of which one was used for performing recee her a day before the murder," he informed.
