ASHISH PURI JULY22,KAPURTHALA: On Monday afternoon, lawyers from the Kapurthala District Bar Association staged a protest outside the SSP office, expressing their anger. They have declared a no-work day for the next two days. The president of the District Bar Association stated that he had gone to meet the SSP to present their side in a land dispute involving a fellow lawyer. However, the SSP allegedly misbehaved and told them to leave the office. Consequently, hundreds of lawyers from the bar association staged a sit-in protest outside the SSP office and chanted slogans. As of the time this news was written, the protest is ongoing. Attempts to reach the SSP for their side of the story were unsuccessful as they did not answer the phone.
The president of the District Bar Association, Rajveer Singh Baba, and vice-president Piyush Manchanda elaborated that their colleague, lawyer Karambir Singh Chandi, is involved in a land dispute, which is currently under a court stay order. This afternoon, several lawyers went to the office of SSP Vatsala Gupta to present their case. At that time, the other party involved was also present. The president added that the SSP used inappropriate language in front of the opposing party and told the lawyers to leave the office. When he politely mentioned that he is the president of the District Bar Association, the SSP told him to speak in a lower tone.
The lawyers were outraged by the SSP's behavior and began a sit-in protest outside the SSP office, during which they also shouted slogans against the SSP. President Rajveer Singh Bawa announced that they have declared a no-work day for the next two days, which will continue tomorrow, July 23.
