Pointing the Centre’s attitude towards farmers' protest, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday continued to criticise the Centre over the three farm laws and said he would explain the content and intent of the bills, enacted by the Centre in September last year. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday criticising the Congress party said they only made noise about the three farm laws but never discussed its content or intent. He also said that Congress is a confused and divided party, how can they do good for the country.

The PM also said that even if there were flaws in the laws, they can be amended but farmers will have to come with reasonable points.

Mr Gandhi said in the Lok Sabha, “Yesterday while addressing the House, the PM said that the Opposition is talking about the agitation but not about the content and intent of the farm maws. I thought I should make him happy today and speak on the content and intent of the laws.”

The Congress leader then described the content and intent of the first farm laws:

  •  1st farm law - content aimed at finishing the mandi system, its intent was ‘to give one friend’ the right of having all the crops of India.
  •  2nd farm law - the content was to end the essential commodities act and its intent was ‘to help the second friend’.
  •  3rd farm law- the content of the third law was that when a farmer goes before the biggest businessman of India to demand the right price for his crops, he will not be allowed to go to the Court.

Rahul Gandhi further alleged that the Centre never paid tributes to the farmers who lost their lives during the farmers’ agitation but only observed a two-minute silence to condole their deaths.
