Today, on 27th December, Punjab is on a high alert as the meteorological department has issued warnings of heavy rain, thunderstorms, and hailstorms. A yellow alert has been issued for a total of 21 districts.
These affected districts include Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ferozepur, Fazilka, Faridkot, Muktsar Sahib, Moga, Bathinda, Ludhiana, Barnala, Sangrur, Fatehgarh Sahib, Rupnagar, Patiala, and Malerkotla.
The meteorological department has urged the residents to stay cautious as the state is going to witness strong winds and adverse weather. There is also a possibility of hailstorm in some of the places. The state's average temperature has increased by 0.6 degrees in the last 24 hours. This is 2 degrees higher than the normal temperature. The highest temperature of 23.9 degrees has been recorded at the Thein Dam in Pathankot
According to the meteorological department, people should try to avoid going out in such weather. Light to moderate rainfall is likely to happen in most parts of the state from December 27 to January 2. According to the department, people should avoid going near the trees or take shelter under them. They are advised to postpone the program of going out and avoid going near ponds and lakes as well.
At the same time, people should drive carefully on the roads. They are asked to park the vehicles in a safe place, keep an eye on the changing weather and be prepared.
