After winning first two ODIs, India won the toss in third ODI and elected to bowl first looking to secure the series in this match. India is going with an unchanged squad into the match after Captain Virat Kohli said that he was proud of the way the team has played and wasn't shy of the two grinding wins in first two ODIs. Australia on the other hand made one change with Nathan Coulter Nile going back home for the birth of his child being replaced by Jhye Richardson. The Indian Cricket Team more or less seems to be balanced but the Australians somewhere lack the balance going into the World Cup.
"We are gonna have a bowl. Looks a decent track, could be dry in the afternoon and dew could settle in later. Looks a better pitch than the previous games. Dew is basically the main factor behind chasing. This is a special cap, it's a tribute to the Armed forces. We're all donating our match fees of this game to the Nation's Defence Fund. I urge everyone in the country to do the same, donate and stick to the families of our armed forces. Special game for us. We're playing the same team. It's been a pleasant surprise, these couple of games. We're proud of the way we played in the first two games. We have been used to 300-350 games but to have those old fashioned 250 games is really pleasing. It's important to have this quality because in the second half of the World Cup, it might come to these skills. We don't mind grinding out wins in such fashion," said Virat Kohli after winning the toss.

Expressing that they're still confident, Australian Captain Aaron Finch said, "I would have bowled first too maybe though I am not sure. Don't know how the wicket will behave really. Need to get stuck in batting first and post a good total. We have one change - Coulter-Nile has gone home for the birth of his second child. Jhye Richardson comes in. Unfortunate to lose close games, always special to get across the line in such games. At the same time, we've enjoyed playing in these tough conditions. Not the traditional Indian wickets where you can stand and deliver, need to graft and the batting is learning. Would have been nice to win but we're still confident. We've done well despite not really playing our best game, so if we can do that, it should be fine."
