Senior batsman Cheteshwar Pujara did not take the field on the Day 2 of the second Test after he suffered injuries on his right hand while batting on Day 1.

Pujara scored 21 runs off 58 balls and added 86 run stand with Rohit Sharma before he was run down by jack leach.

India was finally bowled out for 329 on day two as they lost four wickets for 29 runs resuming their day on 300.

Providing an update on Pujara’s hand injury, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) took to Twitter to reveal that the senior batsman did not take the field on Sunday as he felt some pain in his injured right hand. It remains to be seen if Pujara bats again in India’s second innings of the Chennai Test.

"Cheteshwar Pujara was hit on his right hand while batting on Day 1 of the second @Paytm Test against England at Chepauk. He felt some pain later. He will not be fielding today," BCCI said on Twitter.

Pujara has been one important player for the Indian batting line and remained in the good format for long and his absence is a matter of worry for the ongoing test series.

Mayank Agarwal has replaced Pujara during England's first innings on Day 2 as a substitute.

A total score of 329 in the first innings has made India’s position strong in the game.

Taking on Rohit Sharma's 161 and fifties from Ajinkya Rahane and Rishabh Pant, India managed to get a great total on the board on a rank turner in Chennai.
